ICTA-UAB researcher Joan Martinez Alier receives ERC Advanced Grant to analyze Global Environmental Justice Movement

The project will expand the Environmental Justice Atlas (EJAtlas), a worldwide inventory of ecological distribution conflicts.

The initiative will analyze the alliance between the Global Environmental Justice Movement and the Degrowth movement in Europe.

Is there a Global Movement for Environmental Justice helping to push society and economy towards environmental sustainability? The project “ENVJUSTICE” led by ICTA-UAB researcher Joan Martinez Alier will try to prove there is through research on the many facets of this Global Movement for Environmental Justice. The project will be possible thanks to an Advanced Grant from the European Research Council (ERC) awarded to Joan Martinez Alier with a fund of nearly €2 million. This is the most prestigious grant awarded by ERC, and it is designed to allow outstanding research leaders of any nationality and age to pursue groundbreaking, high-risk projects in Europe.

PhD position in Economics to Investigate Nature-Based Solutions

The Institute of Environmental Planning at Leibniz Universität Hannover invites applications for a PhD position in Economics to be appointed as soon as possible. The position is limited to up to 5 years. Successful applicants will contribute to the research group PlanSmart, exploring innovative approaches to planning and implementing nature-based solutions for resilient development of metropolitan regions. PlanSmart focusses on water-borne challenges, cooperates with the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) and is funded through the program for Social-Ecological Research by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. » Read the full article

Agent-based modelling (ABM) in Ecological Economics-extended deadline

The scientific committee extended the deadline for the “Agent-based modelling (ABM) in Ecological Economics – A useful tool or just a fancy gadget?” on May 20th and 21st 2016 in Berlin.

Committee will continue to accept applications until April 1st 2016.
