Welcome to the European Society for Ecological Economics (ESEE)!
ESEE is the European branch of the International Society of Ecological Economics (ISEE).
ESEE is a non-profit, member-governed, organisation dedicated to advancing understanding of the relationships among ecological, social and economic systems for the mutual well-being of nature and people.
ESEE publishes a newsletter and books (in association with various publishers); holds regional and international meetings; develops educational materials; and facilitates a voice for ecological economists in public forums.
ESEE provides a forum so that we might all better understand these issues. Add your voice to the discussion by becoming a member.
You can stay up to date by subscribing to our newsletter.
For students only: The ESEE Board and ESEE 2013 organising committee are happy to inform you that a Best student paper prize will be awarded, at the end of the conference, during the closing plenary session scheduled on June 21st. 4:00 – 4:30 pm. To be eligible to the prize, candidates must have a full paper ready in English and send it to the following email address: firstname.lastname@example.org, by June 6th, 2013. To be reviewed and eligible to the prize, the first or only author of the paper must be a student. Of course, papers written by several students are also eligible to the prize. To enter, the paper also needs to have been accepted for presentation at the conference.
The prize includes a set of recently published books offered by the publishers present during the conference and a three-year free ESEE membership. Furthermore, the student prize committee (composed of ESEE Board members and ESEE 2013 organising committee members) guarantees the winning paper a refereeing process that will lead to at least an “accepted with major revision” publication status in “Environmental Policy and Governance”.
We had 7 candidates standing for the various positions open in the board (President, 2 Vice-Presidents, and further board members). Exactly 100 members of the 338 ESEE members in 2012 voted, so that the 20% quorum was fulfilled.
Candidates and results:
1. Irene Ring | President | 89%
2. Tatiana Kluvánková-Oravská | Vice President | 74%
3. Erik Gómez-Baggethun | Vice President | 82%
4. Begüm Özkaynak | Board Member | 86%
5. Lenka Slavíková | Board Member | 79%
6. Juha Hiedanpää | Board Member | 79%
7. Leslie Carnoye | Student Representative | 90.6%
As we had fewer candidates than positions open in the ESEE Board, all candidates have been elected. The constitution foresees 9 – 15 board members, and we now have 12 board members as a result of these recent elections, including our two student representatives (Jasper Kenter and Leslie Carnoye).
The term of office of Sigrid Stagl (President), Marina Fischer-Kowalski (Vice-President), Klaus Kubeczko (Secretary) as well as board members Ines Oman, Janne Hukkinnen, Giorgos Kallis and Unai Pascual ended. We would like to cordially thank them all for their active engagement in the ESEE Board.
